Learning and Leading
To support the diverse needs and proficiency levels of professionals working with ELs we created a Professional Learning Program Design Committee. This committee, made up of SEA and LEA personnel, guided the work of professional learnings development. Additional committee inputs include opportunities for testing modules and designs, as well as contributing through surveys.
Professional Learning Workshops
Our four online Professional Learning Workshops are offered to all ELPA21 state content and language teachers:
ELP Standards, Assessments, and Score Reports: increase familiarity with English Language Proficiency Standards, learn to identify how to use ELP Screener and Summative Assessments to best support instructional practice, and gain powerful strategies to embed ELP Standards into instruction
Differentiating Instruction for ELs Based on English Language Proficiency Level: learn a framework for planning, delivering, and assessing classroom instruction based on the student’s English language proficiency level
Differentiation for ELs Level II: learn how to scaffold support, apply differentiated instructional strategies to lesson planning, and analyze complex instructional tasks
Formative Assessment for ELs: learn an effective formative assessment process and gain ELPA21 tools that inform instruction
Developing language to communicate content
ELP Standards are fully integrated with content standards. The ELP Standards correspond to existing CCR standards, underscoring the interconnectivity between language and standards-driven content.
Organization of the 10 ELP Standards
The 10 ELP Standards are organized according to how language skills correspond with ELA and literacy, mathematics, and science standards in six grades and grade bands: kindergarten, 1, 2–3, 4–5, 6–8, and 9–12.
